Bio

Cédric Caillaud was born on June 26th, 1976 in La Rochelle, France. He started practicing music quite late and he learnt how to play the double bass by himself at the age of 20. He was rapidly called to play for several local orchestras; then, he left La Rochelle and settled down in Paris in 2000. There, he registered at the IACP school where he attended the classes of the Belmondo brothers, Clovis Nicolas, and so on…. Apart from going to this school, he studied the double bass with Pierre Boussaguet and he went on learning music in the Parisian jazz clubs he regularly attended, by listening to renowned musicians and having jam sessions as often as he could. Later on, he followed the same line in New York. Cédric is a versatile musician, well at ease not only with gipsy jazz, but also with New Orleans jazz, gospel, blues, mainstream, bebop or modern jazz; he is very often called to play in the greatest Parisian jazz clubs, such as Le Duc des Lombards, Le Bilboquet, le New Morning, le Sunset, le Sunside, or Le Petit Opportun, to mention but a few… You can also see him perform in the most famous jazz festivals, such as Jazz in Vienne, Marciac, JVC jazz festival, Tanjazz, Calvi jazz festival, Enghein jazz, Aroza jazz, and so on... You can listen to him almost everywhere on the French scene, but you can also see him perform his music all over the world, in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Great Britain, as well as in Cap Vert, in Mauritania, Tunisia, Senegal and Morocco….

You’ll find him perform as a sideman alongside Bobby Durham, Harry Allen, Robin Mc Kelle, China Moses, Pee Wee Ellis, Don Menza, Charles « lolo » Bellonzi, Philippe Soirat, Doug Sides, François Laudet, Jean Pierre Arnaud, Pierre Boussaguet, Alain Jean-Marie, Gérard Badini, Mike « Spike »Wilner, Pierre de Betman, Yataka Shiina, Pierre Christophe, Olivier Hutman, Giovani Mirabassi, Ludovic Depressac, Vincent Bourgeyx, Jerry Edwards, Marc Thomas, Larry Browne, Tina May, Laurence Allisson, Sarah Lazarus, Lionel Belmondo, Stéphane Belmondo, Jean Loup Longnon, Fabien Mary, Barend Middelhoff, Pierrick Pedron, Xavier Richardeau, Christian Escoudé, Marc Fosset, Florin Nicolescu, Costel Nitescu, Marcel Azzola, Pierre Blanchard, Boulou et Elios Ferré, Jérôme Barde, Yves Brouqui, Tchavolo Schmitt, Dorado Schmitt et Samson Schmitt, David Reinarht, Thomas Dutronc, to mention but a few names… but also as a leader with Philippe Soirat, Patrick Cabon, Harry Allen.

Today, Cédric Caillaud is one of the most talented and sought-after bass player; besides, he is certainly one of the most present bass player on the Parisian scene. He is a profound musician, a trustworthy double bass player who is always productive in the rendering of the sound; in short, he really is a full-fledged musician thanks to his deep sense of rhythm.Pierre Boussaguet wrote: ”Cédric has very quickly found his place within the community of jazz bass players. He has a profound and solid sound, in the traditional way”. After listening to his second album, John Clayton stated: “What a pleasure to listen to such energy, to pay attention to the bass lines and solos of this most gifted bass brother! He sides with and is an incentive for Harry Allen while inviting the audience in his magnificent musical universe. I feel as if I were in a jazz club when I listen to this kind of jazz I love.
